CANTON A St. Lawrence County grand jury is accusing a Canton man of strangling his ex-girlfriend in an indictment handed up Thursday.
Joshua D. Holder, 33, of 29 E. Main St., is charged with felony second-degree strangulation.
The indictment alleges that on June 10 Holder applied pressure to Christina Manns throat, cutting off circulation and preventing her from breathing.
Village police allege that Mann was living with Holder, her then boyfriend, when they got into an argument and he started to choke her.
Police arrested Holder at his residence at the time of the incident and originally also charged him with second-degree unlawful imprisonment and third-degree assault, both misdemeanors, and second-degree harassment, a violation.
Holder initially was taken to St. Lawrence County jail on $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond. He has since been released and is to appear in St. Lawrence County Court at a later date.
