Morristown Central School senior class headed to Boston in June

MORRISTOWN - Seniors at Morristown Central School are shipping out to Boston, Mass., this spring on the first class trip in two years.

The class trip, scheduled for June 6 through 8, will see students visiting historical sites in Boston and Six Flags New England.

Superintendent David J. Glover said this year’s senior class earned the trip.

Mr. Glover said the class of 2014 is a “go-get-‘em group,” helping run the district’s haunted house on Halloween and setting up a Morristown Central School light display at Lights on the River in Lisbon.

At Wednesday’s board of education meeting – where the trip was unanimously approved – Mr. Glover said not one of Morristown’s senior class is ineligible for the trip for either academic or behavioral reasons.

Mr. Glover said he is confident that the class is ready for the trip and he is comfortable with their plans.

The trip will cost between $600 and $700 per student, though Mr. Glover said thanks to the class’s fundraising efforts he expects very little of the cost to be shouldered by the students’ families.

The senior class has been raising money by operating a concession stand at sporting events, running dress-down and hat days for students and faculty, pie sales, bottle drives and flip-flop sales.

The dates for the trip will not interfere with state testing.

Mr. Glover said over the years senior trips at Morristown have only taken place if the funding and planning is firmly established. It is not something that happens every year by default.

“Nice job, senior class,” board of education Vice President Darrell W. Merkel said.
