Falardeau takes position at Colgate

HAMILTON – Colgate Director of Athletics Victoria M. Chun announced Friday the hiring of Jeff Falardeau as Associate Athletics Director for External Operations.

A native of Lisbon, Falardeau will oversee all external operations in the department, serve on the director of athletics’ senior staff, and supervise several sports.

He replaces Shaun Richard, who left Colgate in October after five years for a position at Ohio State.

Falardeau is a graduate of Lisbon Central School where he earned All-Northern Conference honors in soccer and basketball. As a senior he was honored by the Northern New York Boys Basketball officials Board with the 1993 Joe Jukoski Memorial as the Outstanding Boys Basketball Player in the NAC.

“We are thrilled Jeff will be joining our Colgate Athletics family,” Chun said. “His in-depth experience within all facets of athletic administration, knowledge of corporate partnerships, and experience supporting student-athletes is second to none. He is a tremendous addition to our administrative staff.”

Falardeau’s first day at Colgate is Jan. 20.

Falardeau comes to Colgate from nearby Ithaca, an NCAA Division III member with a storied athletics history. Falardeau joined the Bombers in 2011 and served as assistant director of athletics for the Athletics and Events Center, which opened in fall of that year at a cost of $65.5 million.

He also started the department’s Most Valuable Partner (MVP) corporate support program, which helped increase the national visibility of Ithaca Athletics and enhanced the department’s student-athlete experience.

“I am extremely appreciative of the opportunity Susan Bassett (Ithaca director of athletics) gave me and grateful for the time I spent at Ithaca College,” Falardeau said. “I had the opportunity to be around an amazing group of staff, coaches and student-athletes.

“But I am excited for this next challenge and I want to thank Vicky Chun and the entire search committee for giving me this opportunity to come and be a part of the Colgate community. Colgate is one of the most respected universities both academically and athletically in the country, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Falardeau oversaw Ithaca’s internal operations and directed all game and event management for Glazer Arena, Higgins Stadium, Wheeler Tennis Courts and the Aquatics Pavilion. He supervised the sports of men’s and women’s rowing, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and wrestling.

“I have been blessed to have some terrific mentors and work at some great institutions during my athletics administration career,” Falardeau said. “Those individuals allowed me to step outside of my job descriptions at times and learn new things and better myself professionally. For all they have done for me, I am truly grateful.”

Falardeau arrived in Ithaca after seven years at Cabrini, an NCAA Division III member in the Philadelphia area. He served the Cavaliers as assistant director of athletics for four years and associate director of athletics for two.

He was the department’s interim director of athletics for the 2007-08 academic year.

During his time at Cabrini, he oversaw internal operations, coordinated daily operations and game/event management, and assisted with fundraising, capital projects and strategic planning.

A 1998 graduate of SUNY Potsdam, Falardeau played varsity soccer and basketball. He worked as an assistant soccer coach at his alma mater before earning a master’s degree from Indiana State University.

Falardeau also spent a year as athletic facility coordinator at Virginia. He is a former member of the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse and men’s tennis regional committees.
