Raquette River to be highlighted on WPBS program Monday night

COLTON — The Raquette River will be in the spotlight beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday as “The Raquette River Winter Experience” airs on WPBS-DT, in the conclusion of a two-part documentary.

WPBS Digital TV began work on part one, “The Raquette River Experience,” in 2011 and finished filming in early 2012. That 30-minute program aired in 2012. “They did a program covering more of the summertime activities and what you could do on the river at that time. It was so successful that they decided to do one on the wintertime as well,” Tourism and Beautification Coordinator Ruth T. McWilliams said.

Part two is hosted by renowned angler and FishCap project manager Donald R. Meissner and is supported in part by grants from Brookfield Renewable Energy, North Country Savings Bank and TJ Toyota of Potsdam.

The second portion of the program highlights the various activities provided by the towns along the Raquette River during the winter.

Ms. McWilliams announced the news at the monthly Colton Town Council meeting this week. “We learned that WPBS has indeed completed its plans to air the new Raquette River program. It’s called the ‘Raquette River (Winter) Experience,’” she said. “The intention has always been that it would come out in January in time for all of these winter festivals, but we never got confirmation until today whether it was actually going to happen.”

According a WPBS news release, the Raquette River Blueway Corridor group was “instrumental in the creation of this two-part series.”

Part two will reair on WPBS-DT at 11:30 p.m. Monday, 4 p.m. Jan. 25, 1:30 p.m. Feb. 2, 10:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and online at
