COPENHAGEN The Copenhagen Fire Department firematic drill team, the Copenhagen Cubs, will host two snowmobile drag races this winter, both to raise money to assist with maintaining firetrucks and equipment.
Its a thing weve had for the last three years, and were hoping for a lot of spectators, said James C. Henry, Copenhagen Cubs member and event organizer.
The first is set for Feb. 8, behind the Copenhagen Fire Department, 9950 Main St.
Each year the drags have netted about $1,500 for the drill team, which it hopes to repeat this year. The event is open to all classes from Kitty Cat and up with stock and modified classes. The drags will be held over an 800-foot track with a 1-foot, 6-inch ice base. Registration will run from 8 to 10 a.m. and costs $10 per class to compete. Anyone who participates is required to wear a helmet.
The second race will be Feb. 16, to coincide with the Snow Ridge Ski Resort Snowmobile Hill Climb the day before.
Were hoping a lot of their guys will stay around on the 16th, Mr. Henry said.
That Sunday will be open only to 600cc and up classes.
Cash prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place finishers based on the amount brought in per class.
The event is open to spectators for $5 per person.
Last year the Cubs had a relatively successful season, taking third overall out of at least eight teams in Northern New York.
