POTSDAM - The Potsdam Village Board has received a grant from the New York State Department of Transportation, which will cover 90 percent of expenses needed for the installation of a new Self-Service Jet A Aviation Fuel System at the Potsdam Municipal Airport.
Mayor Steven W. Yurgartis is optimistic that it will happen in the next few months.
We hope early in the spring we will be able to get the bids in, give out the contract, and get it built as soon as possible. There is a current demand for jet fuel there, so wed like to get it installed as soon as possible, Mr. Yurgartis said. Weve been looking for this grant money for over a year, and we went down several dead ends where we did not receive a grant, but finally New York state came through for us. And its good news because we do have that demand for Jet A fuel out there, particularly for Air Methods, which is our emergency air service. Its a very important service for the north country.
The 4,000 gallon self-contained Skidmount System will be adjacent to the existing AvGas facility and connected to existing electric and communication utilities.
We also have, it looks like, a charter jet thats going to be located out there, and we will sell that at a profit so it also will be an income stream for the village, according to Mr. Yurgartis.
The village is projecting the total project cost to be $140,000, meaning that the NYSDOT would contribute $126,000 and the village would be responsible for the remaining $14,000.
