Carrothers & Clough law firm opens in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG — A recently opened law firm with offices in Ogdensburg and Watertown hopes to continue providing representation to those who otherwise couldn’t afford it.

Carrothers & Clough PLLC, 1033 Paterson St., has been open since Jan. 2. Its partners are Alice J. Carrothers and Molly E. Clough, former law partners of longtime Ogdensburg attorney Preston C. Carlisle. Ms. Carrothers and Ms. Clough also operate a Watertown office at 18242 Route 3.

“We’ve been working in the community 22 years,” Ms. Carrothers said. “We learned a lot working with Preston, and we are happy to continue serving the community.”

The firm, which also includes attorney Rebecca A. Simser, focuses on workers’ compensation, personal injury and negligence actions and Social Security Disability cases, as well some criminal case work, wills and real estate transactions.

Ms. Clough said she is pleased to be able to continue practicing law in Ogdensburg.

“There is a real need for legal services here,” she said. “We will offer free consultations, because we know a lot of the people who need legal help are those who are least able to afford it. People really do need a lot of help.”

Ms. Simser, who also previously worked for Mr. Carlisle, said she is excited to be a part of the practice.

“I think it’s an amazing enterprise,” she said. “I’m working for some amazing women. We’re in the business to help people. I think it’s a noble goal.”

“We are eager to serve any needs in the community here and in Watertown,” Ms. Clough said.

The firm tentatively plans to hold an open house the afternoon of Feb. 14.

Ms. Carrothers resides in Prescott, Ontario, and has been a member of the New York State Bar since 1992. She received her law degree from the University of Wales, United Kingdom.

Ms. Clough resides in Massena and is a graduate of SUNY Potsdam. She received her law degree from Syracuse University. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1997.

Ms. Simser is a Canton native who resides in Carthage. She is a graduate of SUNY Potsdam and received her law degree in 2010 from Western New England University Law School, Springfield, Mass. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2011.
