To The Editor:
The Lisbon Town Recreation Committee held its 11th Annual Fifth- and Sixth-Grade Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament Jan. 18, hosting nine schools for a fun-filled day of basketball. Thank you to the following teams that participated: Madrid-Waddington, Edwards-Knox, Hammond, Heuvelton, Gouveneur, Canton, Potsdam, Clayton and Colton-Pierrepont.
The tournament would not be possible without the referees and timekeepers who volunteered their time. Thanks to Doug James, Nick Snyder, Al Flack, Father Jay Seymour, Scott Wilhelm, Andrew Rupert, Wayne Fletcher, Zach Snyder, Angela McClear, John Gammon, Andrew Stolz, Greg Thompson and members of the varsity, junior varsity and modified basketball teams. Thank you to Jan Johnson, Rhonda Fletcher, Alyshia Murray, parents of the fifth- and sixth-grade basketball teams and members of the National Honor Society for helping with the concession stand, selling raffle tickets and donating food.
Without the local businesses that sponsor Lisbon Town Recreation sports and activities throughout the year, our youth would not have the invaluable opportunities offered to them. A big thank you goes out to Potters Industries, Glow Skincare & Spa and Cope Consulting for your support of the tournament and 2013-2014 basketball season.
Lastly, thank you to the athletic department and custodial staff at Lisbon Central School for making it possible to host the tournament each year.
