MENACING - MASSENA - Village police charged Macy Barney, 18, of 16 Parker Ave., Massena, with second-degree menacing, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday following an investigation into a domestic dispute that took place at 1:35 p.m. that day at 20 Parker Ave.

Macy Barney was allegedly arguing with the father of her five-month-old child, described in court papers as her ex-boyfriend, when she walked up behind Richard Schwartfigure and placed a kitchen knife on the back of his neck while he was holding their baby.

Court documents indicated Barney had moved in with Mr. Schwartfigure a few days ago after the couple had been staying together for much of the past month. Mr. Schwartfigure’s mother, in her statement to police, said she was at the residence when the dispute took place and said she had warned her son that Barney was coming after him with a knife.

The couple were reportedly arguing over who was going to care for the child while Mr. Schwartfigure went to the laundromat with his mother.

Ms. Barney, in her statement to police, said Mr. Schwartfigure had attacked her Wednesday afternoon. “For the past five days, Richard has told me I can’t leave the apartment. Richard told me if I tried to leave the apartment that he would kill me and the baby,” she said in the statement she signed for police.

She said after Mr. Schwartfigure left the residence she put the baby in a snowsuit and in a car seat and planned to flee to her mother’s residence. But she said before she left the residence Mr.. Schwartfigure came back up the sideway and became incensed when he saw the baby was dressed to go outdoors.

“I then told Richard I was leaving him,” she said in her statement. “Richard then began to hit me and kick me all over the body.”

Barney was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and released under the supervision of the probation department. The court also signed a temporary order of protection directing Barney to stay away from Mr. Schwartfigure.
