MASSENA - United Steelworkers Local 420-A representatives will be meeting with union members during four separate meetings over a 24-hour stretch, beginning this afternoon, to share information about the settlement that has been reached between Alcoa and union leaders following the closure of the Alcoa East plant.
Local 420-A President Robert Smith said informational meetings will take place at 3:15 and 7:30 p.m. today and at 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday at the union hall, 24 Woodlawn Ave. Massena,
Mr. Smith noted that the time frame of the discussions will depend largely on how the discussions go.
It depends on the questions and everything else. We dont have a set end time, he said.
Local 420-A represents union employees at the Alcoa West plant, the former Alcoa Massena Operations.
One of the issues on the table during negotiations between the United Steelworkers and Alcoa following the announcement that the remaining two potlines at Alcoa were being shutdown in the first quarter of 2014 was reportedly the potential for employee transfers from the Alcoa East plant to the Alcoa West plant.
