COLTON Owners and managers of the Stone Valley Cooperative Recreation Area are updating a 24-year-old management plan for the area.
A draft plan from December is available on the Adirondack Mountain Club/Laurentian Chapter website (http://adklaurentian.org/). The plan outlines management goals and objectives.
A public meeting on the revised plan will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the boardroom of the Colton Town Hall, 94 Main St. Reviewers are invited to provide comments by Feb. 7 for the partners to consider when making final changes during February.
In 1989 the Stone Valley Cooperative Recreation Area was dedicated by representatives of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Niagara Mohawk and the Colton Historical Society along with the St. Lawrence County forester, the Colton town supervisor and fellow council members. Lewis Weeks of the Adirondack Mountain Club is credited with having the vision for the Recreation Area.
Now representatives of Brookfield Renewable Energy, St. Lawrence County, the Adirondack Mountain Club, St. Lawrence County Mountain Bike Association, American Whitewater and the towns of Colton, Parishville and Pierrepont are working together to update the management plan.
Additional information about the Stone Valley trail system is available online via the Laurentian Chapter website. Also, a notebook about the Recreation Area including the draft management plan is available in the Colton Town Hall for people to review.
