CANTON Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute scored twice in the third period to rally past St. Lawrence University, 4-3 in an ECAC Hockey game on Saturday night at Appleton Arena.
Mark Miller, a Massena native, scored the tying goal for the Engineers six minutes into the final period and Ryan Haggerty, two totaled a pair of goals and an assist, followed with the game winner at 10:48.
RPI (11-11-4, 5-6-3), which rebounded after losing to Clarkson 3-0 on Friday, won for the first time this season when trailing after two periods.
Scott Diebold made 22 saves to earn the win for the Engineers.
Justin Baker scored a goal and assisted on two others for St. Lawrence (9-14-3, 3-8-3), which lost for just the second time this season when leading through the second period.
Jeremy Wick and Kyle Essery also scored for the Saints.
Matt Weninger stopped 25 of 29 shots faced for St. Lawrence.
The Saints had a chance to gain ground in the ECAC standings, including on seventh-place RPI, but with the loss remain in a tie for ninth place with Harvard.
St. Lawrence now has four weeks remaining in the regular season, including four games both at home and on the road.
The Saints play at Princeton and at Quinnipiac next Friday and Saturday.
