A Watertown woman was charged Monday afternoon after city police said she had lorazepam pills without a prescription.
Jamilah R. Smith, 18, of 206 Franklin St., Apt. 515, was charged with possessing six 0.5 milligram pills in a plastic baggie hanging out of her pants pocket in plain view at 206 Franklin St. at 4:51 p.m. Monday.
Lorazepam, also known by its brand name Ativan, is often prescribed for anxiety disorders, insomnia and seizures, and also is used as a sedative, but is also abused recreationally and can lead to physical dependence.
She was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where she was issued an appearance ticket to City Court.
