Duprey announces re-election bid

Republican state Assemblywoman Janet L. Duprey announced Wednesday that she is seeking re-election to her seat representing the 115th Assembly District.

In her announcement, Duprey cited an improving economic picture in her district and in the state and repeated her criticisms of the state roll-out of the Common Core education standards.

“The north country is a wonderful place to live and work with many positive actions taking place,” Duprey said in a news release announcing her re-election bid.

“I have devoted considerable time and energy to develop valuable bipartisan relationships with elected officials and people of all political parties in Albany and across the north country. The spirit of cooperation throughout the district’s counties, towns, villages, school districts and business community is critical as we move forward to maintain our outstanding quality of life and improve our economic development,” she said.

“As important as our work is in Albany, it is the daily contact with the people who live in the district that brings the most satisfaction to this position,” Duprey said. “Whether it is a small business person needing assistance with a state agency, a municipality looking for information, a school district reaching out or a non-profit organization seeking help, it is satisfying to be able to almost always get things done for those who need it. On a personal level the ability to assist an individual person or family with an issue that is affecting their daily lives and in most cases to be able to solve the problem is the most rewarding part of this position. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the constituents of the 115th District and I look forward to continuing to serve.”

Duprey, a former Clinton County legislator, was first elected to the Assembly in 2006. She ran unopposed in 2008 and easily turned back challenges from both the left and the right in 2010 and 2012.

No other candidates have thus far indicated they are interested in the seat.

The 115th Assembly District covers Franklin and Clinton counties as well as four towns in St. Lawrence County - Brasher, Lawrence, Hopkinton and Piercefield.
