Woolf says Congressional campaign plans coming

The Essex County man selected Wednesday by Democratic Party leaders to challenge Republican Elise M. Stefanik for New York’s 21st Congressional District seat issued a news release Thursday saying he plans to reveal more information about his campaign “in the coming days.”

Aaron Woolf, a documentary filmmaker who divides his time between a home in the Adirondacks and Brooklyn, emerged following a daylong selection committee meeting of chairpersons from each of the 12 counties in the district as the endorsed candidate.

“I am very eager to discuss my ideas and hear from North Country voters in the weeks and months to come at events in the community, in their living rooms, and at their doorsteps,” Mr. Woolf said in the prepared statement.

Efforts to reach Mr. Woolf for additional comment have been unsuccessful. A worker at a business he owns in Brooklyn, Urban Rustic Market & Cafe, was unable to supply any contact information for him Wednesday.

The short release sent out by Mr. Woolf said he was “proud” to have the support of the Democratic leaders and was “honored” to have been chosen to try to succeed Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, who is not seeking re-election.

“Upstate New York is a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire, but we need to make sure it stays that way for future generations,” Mr. Woolf’s statement said. “I’m committed to ensuring our kids have access to quality education and will work to improve and enhance our region’s infrastructure so our local business can grow and our economy can thrive.”

Mr. Woolf’s statement did not offer any specifics about his agenda, but he said he is “looking forward to discussing my ideas about ways we can work together to spur our local economy, create new jobs, and protect all North Country families.”
