The 11th annual Snow Golf – “Snolf” – tournament to benefit the St. Lawrence Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is almost here with volunteers preparing to set up the course on Feb. 23.

Organizer Jennifer Stevenson said this year’s course will feature nine, par-three holes set up in Father Martin’s Field on Hasbrouck Street behind the Knights of Columbus.

“It’s a fun day,” she said. “It’s a really good time.”

The event costs $25 per person and will be run with a captain and crew format with four-person teams, Ms. Stevenson said.

Tees and colored balls - which are a must in the snow - will be provided, Ms. Stevenson said, adding that a map of the course and a scorecard will be given to players when they start.

Last year Ms. Stevenson said they had 18 teams show up for the event.

And although this winter has so far been plagued by cold weather and heavy snow, Ms. Stevenson said the event has gone on every year despite blizzards, ice and even mud.

“We play in any circumstances,” she said. “We make it happen.”

The event will feature raffles in addition to food available throughout the day and a cash bar.

Inside the Knights of Columbus Hall, music will be provided by DJ Ken Chase to keep onlookers and people waiting to play entertained.

A putting contest will be held and there will be door prizes in addition to prizes for the best team.

Ms. Stevenson said the knights are donating the space to the SPCA for the event. Ms. Stevenson said the event is a “substantial fundraiser” for the SPCA, a society dedicated to helping animals in need. The SPCA provides adoption services, advocates for spay/neuter as the only humane way to control pet populations and educates people on how to treat animals.
