TROY Matt Weninger stopped all 22 shots he faced and Greg Carey recorded three assists as St. Lawrence University blanked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 4-0 on Friday night in an ECAC Hockey game on Saturday night at Houston Field House.
Chris Martin scored a goal and assisted on two others for the Saints (12-15-4, 6-9-4), and Riley Austin contributed a goal and an assist.
Matt Carey also scored a goal for St. Lawrence, which improved to 3-1-1 over its past five road games and also snapped a four-game skid against the Engineers.
Scott Diebold finished with 28 saves for RPI (13-13-5, 7-8-4).
SUNY Oswego 4, SUNY Potsdam 3: With the playoff race coming down to the wire and precious conference points on the line Friday night at Maxcy Ice Arena, the SUNY Potsdam mens hockey team fought hard but were bitten by a costly span of 45 seconds late in the second period as the Bears fell short to SUNY Oswego.
With Brockport defeating SUNY Fredonia 4-1 earlier in the evening, the Potsdam loss officially eliminated the Bears from playoff contention. Potsdam has 10 conference points while Brockport and Fredonia each have 13 conference points apiece. All three teams have one game remaining in their regular season with their finales coming on Saturday.
Potsdam (9-13-2, 4-9-2 SUNYAC) had led 2-1 after the first intermission, but lost their lead on a goal by the Lakers leading scorer and freshman forward Matt Galati (Toronto, Ontario) just 36 seconds into the second period.
With the game knotted at 2-2, Oswego junior Mike Montagna (Fulton, N.Y.) gave the Lakers its first lead of the game with 3:05 remaining in the second period. Galati struck again just 45 seconds later on a slap shot for his 20th goal of the season from just inside the circle to make it 4-2.
The Bears made it interesting for the closing minutes when senior captain Mike Arnold (Didsbury, Alberta) put it in the net for his 16th goal of the season on assists from Nick Avgerinos (Bolton, Ontario) and Vinny Caligiuri (Shoreham, N.Y.).
Potsdam proceeded to pull goaltender Jon Hall (Dexter, N.Y.) with 1:05 left to give them a man advantage and last desperation chance to score. The Bears got a couple looks on goal, but both shots were saved by Lakers goaltender Matt Zawadski (9-2-2), who finished with 31 saves.
Hall (3-4-2), who had been 3-0-2 in his previous five starts, finished with 28 saves.
Potsdam took advantage of a pair of early power play opportunities in the first period, making good on both on goals from sophomore Billy Pascalli (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Arnold. Pascalli is second on the team with nine goals and third on the team in points with 17.
Oswego (16-6-2, 9-5-1 SUNYAC) was able to clinch the third seed in the SUNYAC playoffs by virtue of their win combined with Buffalo States 3-2 overtime loss to SUNY Geneseo on Friday night.
Potsdam will hold its senior day tonight at 7 p.m. against SUNY Cortland.

Clarkson 64, Bard 47: John Coleman tallied 23 points as the Golden Knights (15-9, 9-6) defeated Bard in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.
Felix Abongo scored 13 points with 12 rebounds for Clarkson and Marques Charlton added 11.
Lamar Powell scored 13 points for Bard (5-19, 0-15).
Vassar 76, SLU 58: Johnny Mrlik led five players in double figures with 17 points as Vassar (18-6, 10-5) defeated the Saints in a Liberty League contest in Canton.
Luke Ladan scored 14 points and Erikson Wasyl added 13 for the Brewers. Evan Carberry scored 12 points and Alex Snyder added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Edwards led the Saints (9-15, 5-10) with 12 points and Kieran Miller tossed in 11.
SUNY Buffalo 95, SUNY Potsdam 80: Justin Mitchell scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Buffalo State (12-12, 8-9) defeated the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.
Roderick Epps scored 25 points for Buffalo State. Bradley Doyley tallied 14 points and Rey Jordan added 10.
Rob Duquette led the Bears (4-20, 2-15) with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Tom Graf scored 16 points and Zac Adams tossed in 10.
SLU 75, Vassar 66: Kara McDuffee scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Saints (17-7, 13-2) past Vassar in a Liberty League game in Canton, clinching the regular-season conference title for the Saints.
Kelly Legg tallied 24 points for SLU and Allison Cady scored 19. Cassie St. Hilaire tossed in 10.
Cyndi Matsuoka led Vassar (19-5, 12-3) scored 27 points and Caitlin Drakeley added 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Clarkson 66, Bard 53: Ashley Loggins scored 19 points and snagged eight rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (9-14, 4-11) past Bard in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.
Stephanie Grobe scored 12 points and Cara Manfredi added 11 for Clarkson.
Tytravia Riley led Bard (1-23, 0-15) with 22 points and 14 rebounds and Bianka Bell added 13.
SUNY Buffalo 91, SUNY Potsdam 84: Staci McElroy scored 25 points to send Buffalo State (19-5, 14-3) past the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.
Bianca Smiley scored 16 points and Olivia Luciani added 15 for the Bengals. Ashley Wallace tossed in 13 points.
Carli Reynolds scored 21 points for the Bears (6-18, 4-13). Bailey Weigel scored 17 points. Jessica Kouzan tallied 14 points with Chenice Russell adding 13. Hannah Kmiecinski provided 12 points for SUNY Potsdam.
SLU 4, Union 0: Carmen MacDonald made 23 saves to shut out Union (9-23-1, 4-17) in an ECAC Hockey game in Appleton Arena.
Kailee Heidersbach scored two goals to lead the Saints (12-17-3, 11-7-3). Kayla Raniwsky and Dayle Wilkinson also scored for SLU.
