PETIT LARCENY - MASSENA - Village police charged Kellen M. Sunday, 29, of 335 3rd St., Cornwall, Ont., with petit larceny after responding to a shoplifting complaint at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday at the Walmart store in Massena. He was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and was sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.

Sunday allegedly walked past the store’s last point of sale without paying for $347.30 worth of merchandise, including several packages of meat. Gold Bond cream, a comforter and a blanket.

BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Village police picked up Jason A. Clookey,34, of 8545 state Route 56, Norfolk, on a bench warrant for violating his release under probation supervision on two grand larceny counts.

Clookey was picked up on the warrant by Potsdam Village Police when he was checking himself out of rehab before he had completed the program.

Clookey had been charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny on Jan. 14. He reportedly used the credit card issued to Danko Construction to make several purchases of cigarettes, beer and gasoline for friend’s vehicles between Dec. 4 - 7. He said he lost the card on the evening of Dec. 7. Several additional transactions were made on the card from Dec. 7-9.

Clookey’s mother, Robin L., is an administrative assistant for Danko Construction.

The Norfolk-area man reportedly told probation officials he had sniffed gas, huffed paint thinner, drank alcohol, used crack cocaine, snorted a Vicodin and smoked marijuana in the first couple of days after he has been released from jail and placed under probation supervision in late January. The warrant had been signed by Acting Massena Village Justice James M. Crandall on Jan. 31 but was not executed while Clookey was in a treatment program.

He was arraigned on the warrant by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1,500 cash or $3,000 bond. He is schedule to reappear Wednesday afternoon before Judge Gustafson.

STOP SIGN - MASSENA - Village police ticketed Andy E. Maslin, 23, of Massena for a stop sign violation at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday following a traffic stop on Parker Avenue near Alvern.

UNSAFE BACKING - MASSENA - Village police ticketed Elmer F. Rakoce, 83, of Belmont Street, Massena, for unsafe backing at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday following an incident on Sycamore Street.
