While 21st Congressional District county Republican Committees have coalesced around the candidacy of Elise M. Stefanik, county Conservative Committees did not commit to a candidate before Watertown’s Matthew A. Doheny entered the race, and it is apparent Conservative endorsements are there for the taking.

On Thursday, the Washington County Conservative Party cast their lot with Mr. Doheny.

“On behalf of the Washington County Conservative Party Executive Committee, I am proud to endorse Matt Doheny to be our next Representative in Congress.” Washington County Conservative Party Committee Chairwoman Beverly Jakway said in a news release issued through the Doheny camp.

Ms. Jakway praised Mr. Doheny’s “combination of real-world experience and deep North Country roots” as the best way to get rid of “big-government insiders.:

Ms. Stefanik, Willsboro, has been endorsed by the Franklin county Conservative Party Committee chairman.

Last week, in a news release issued by the Stefanik campaign, Chairman Robert White said “Elise has demonstrated she has the energy and convictions to be a strong and effective voice for Upstate Conservatives in Congress. She is someone I believe we all can rally behind – who is our absolute best shot at taking this seat back in 2014. I’m proud to give my full endorsement to Elise’s campaign.”

On Jan. 27, Ms. Stefanik appeared at the Conservative Party of New York’s political action conference in Albany, where she sought the party’s support. While she received high marks from state Chairman Michael R. Long, she did not come away with an endorsement.

“She delivered a very good speech. ... She got her message across very clearly,”Mr. Long said.

Mr. Long said then that he has a good relationship with Mr. Doheny, the Conservative Party’s nominee in 2012,
