UTICA A Glenfield man died Monday after suffering a heart attack Saturday at the annual Americas Greatest Heart Run and Walk in Utica.
Michael W. Wofford, 66, collapsed and became unresponsive while walking near the intersection of Burrstone Road and Washington Drive in the town of New Hartford, state police said.
Mr. Wofford was participating with The Arcs team. He was a resident of the Oneida-Lewis agencys Braddish Road facility for those with disabilities.
A registered nurse and doctor who were walking in a team nearby started CPR, and two troopers intervened with an automated external defibrillator. He was taken by ambulance to Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare, but he died at the hospital early Monday, according to an Arc release.
We are all deeply saddened by Michaels passing, Karen Korotzer, chief executive officer at the Utica-based organization, said in a statement. He enjoyed participation in community events like the Heart Run and Walk. We have been moved by the many, many supporters in our community, including Dick Mattia and his staff at the American Heart and Stroke Association, and those who intervened at the walk to help Michael. He will be greatly missed.
