DEPAUVILLE A Depauville teenager died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday night.
State Police Public Information Officer Jack L. Keller said police responded to a call about a suicide attempt at 6:30 p.m. He said when officers arrived at the County Route 12 home, the youth, identified by state police as 16-year-old Daniel J. Briggs, was dead.
Mr. Keller said police are investigating the case as a suicide.
Mr. Briggs was a junior at Thousand Islands Central School, where Superintendent Frank C. House said he was a good, quiet kid. He said members of the school district, including students and staff, were very sad to learn about his death.
Mr. House said he heard about the teenagers death Monday evening and by Tuesday morning, news of the death had affected the entire districts students and staff.
Counseling services are available to anyone who needs them, he said. Students and staff can talk to the high school and middle school counselors, and Mr. House said support staff from other schools are at the school in case they are needed.
Anyone with questions or concerns can call the school guidance office at 686-5578.
