Winners: The Pendragon Theatre, Saranac Lake, announced the winners of its first Young Playwrights’ Festival. Witter Swanson, Saranac Lake Central School, took first place for his play, “Elmer,” and Amber Baker, Beekmantown Central School, took runner-up honors for her play “The Esteemed Institute.” Mr. Swanson’s play will receive a full production and Miss Baker’s play will receive a reading at the Festival, on April 5 at the theater. Provides care: Navy Reserve Cmdr. Michael A. Lettiere provided free medical care to residents of rural Louisiana during exercise Cajun Care, Feb. 25 to March 6. Cmdr. Lettiere is a physician assistant assigned to Operational Health Support Unit, Detachment I, Navy Operational Support Center, Syracuse. He has 30 years of military service.

Mr. Lettiere, husband of Kathleen Lettiere, Watertown, and son of Carl and Geraldine Lettiere, Sackets Harbor, is a 1980 graduate of Immaculate Heart Central School, Watertown, and a 1995 graduate of D’Youville College, Buffalo.

Honored: Master Sgt. Shawn Knowlton, Watertown, was honored at a March 2 awards ceremony for members of the New York Air National Guard’s 105th Airlift Wing. Mr. Knowlton, a federal marshal in civilian life, received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Air Force Combat Action Medal.
