Lewis County Sheriff’s Department joins ranks of Facebook

LOWVILLE — The Lewis County Sheriff’s Department wants you to like it ... on Facebook, that is.

The department recently created a profile on the social network, adding another way for its staff to stay in communication with the public.

“It’s going to be a benefit to both law enforcement and public relations,” said Lewis County Undersheriff James M. Monnat.

Items of immediate importance will be posted on the site by department staff assigned to monitor the account.

The public also can send tips or information to officers through the site.

“We have our tip line number posted on the page, too,” Undersheriff Monnat said. The tip line takes anonymous calls 24-hours a day.

Undersheriff Monnat said that the department made the decision to create an account after seeing the great success other departments have had with the social media site.

Though it was launched only two weeks ago, the site has gained nearly 500 likes.

Currently, the department has posted a list of outstanding and active warrants as well as photos of officers during K-9 training.

It also has posted vintage photos, for a nostalgic glance through the department’s history.

The department’s facebook page can be found at:
