An Adams resident, Barbara Cook, 72, remains in serious condition at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.

Her status was relayed at 8:45 p.m. Sunday by a nursing supervisor at the hospital.

She was hospitalized after being hit while crossing East Genesee Street, Syracuse, on Friday afternoon with her daughter Jennifer S. Cook, 43, of Providence, R.I. Syracuse police said a Mazda pickup truck driven by James McDonald, 86, of Chittenango, swerved and hit them.

Jennifer Cook, also taken to the Syracuse hospital, died of her injuries at an unspecified time Friday. A graduate of South Jefferson Central School, Adams, she worked as an associate professor of English and secondary education at Rhode Island College, and directed the school’s Rhode Island Writing Project. She studied at American University, Washington, D.C., and at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she earned her doctorate in 2004.
