Canton - Rose M. Robert, 79, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 21st at 1:30 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton with Father Douglas Lucia officiating. There will be no calling hours and arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home of Gouverneur.

Rose was born October 4, 1934 in Hamilton, Virginia, the daughter of James and Myrtle Embery Lickey.

Rose was a waitress in Florida for nearly 20 years and at various local restaurants including the Canton Diner. She also provided housekeeping services and served as the manager at the Windy Hill Motel.

Rose attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was known for her gardening skills, especially Christmas cactus, cooking, and her knack for home decorating. Her lively spirit will be missed by her friends and neighbors at her high rise apartment.

She had previously been married to Paul Robert.

Rose is survived by her 5 children Stanley and Janet Robert, Laurie and Wayne Hance, Bert and Renie Robert, all of Canton, Debbie and Tony Chase of Potsdam, Denise Robert of Palatka, FL, 15 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Rose is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Stanley & Loretta Lickey, of Purceville, VA, William Thomas “Tommy” Lickey Sr., of Leesburg, VA, Robert Lee & Mary Esther Lickey, of Leesburg, VA, Mildred Virginia Lickey, of Berryville, VA, Ralph & Jane Lickey, of Manassas, VA, Pat & Robert Kent, of Leesburg, VA, John Paul & Connie Lickey, of Lovettsville, VA, a sister-in-law Linda Lickey, several nieces and nephews including Billie and Brenda. Rose is predeceased by her sisters and brothers Mary Catherine Cummings, Bertha Elizabeth Hamilton, Arthur Lickey, Frank Lickey, and Russell Henry Lickey.
