LOUISVILLE – Mrs. Rena B. Collins, 98, formerly a resident of Wilson Hill and Waddington, died Sunday evening, March 16, 2014 at the Florida Hospital Deland, where she had been a patient for the past few days. She had been a resident of Orange City, Florida for the past several years.
Rena was born June 3, 1915 in Louisville, the daughter of the late George W. and Hazel A. Power Browning. She was a graduate of Massena High School and in 1936 she graduated from Syracuse University. On June 25, 1938, she married William T. Collins in Oswego. William predeceased her on May 9, 1989.
Rena was a school nurse and teacher with the Oswego City School System for many years retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Syracuse University Alumni Association and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. While living on Wilson Hill, she was a member of the Louisville Community Church. She was a former member of the West Volusia Artists Association.
Rena is survived by a nephew and his wife, Donald and Mary Lee Frysinger of Liverpool and Florida; two nieces and their husbands, Carol and Ted Synokowski, formerly of Spencerport; JoAnn and Wayne Griffith, formerly of Massena; several grand nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her sister, Onnolee Frysinger in March 1999; her brother, Ray Browning in May 2000; and her nephew, Neal Frysinger.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring 2014 at Louisville Community Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where memories and condolences may be shared online at www.donaldsonfh.com.
