CANTON — St. Lawrence University forward Greg Carey signed an entry-level contract with the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday.

Carey, who just completed his senior season with the Saints last weekend and finished tied for second place on the school’s all-time goal-scoring list (185 points), completed the deal after he also considered offers from the Minnesota Wild and Philadelphia Flyers.

After signing an amateur tryout agreement with the AHL’s Portland Pirates, Carey will today report to the Coyotes’ minor league affiliate. The one-year entry level contract with Phoenix applies for next season.

Carey, who currently leads the nation in assists (39) and is third in points (57), led the country in goals (28) last season, when he was the first junior Hobey Baker Award finalist in St. Lawrence history.
