ANTWERP- Jacob Troy (Roe) Tyler, 35, County Route 194 died in a car accident Monday, March 17, 2014.

He was born March 28, 1978 in Davenport, Iowa to David and Linda Freeman Roe and graduated from Bennett Community School in Davenport IA

Jake found great satisfaction in his work, having found it after serving nine years with the United States Army. He served a tour in South Korea in 2002, and served a tour during the Iraq War in 2004, based in Baghdad at the peak of the conflict. Jake was always proud of his military service, considering it his great honor to serve his country. His sense of honor, duty, loyalty and friendship earned him strong bonds between friends he had made there and in later years of his life. He was known amongst his brothers and sisters there as a shining example of craftsmanship, camaraderie and possessing an outstanding work ethic. Humor and an easy-going nature earned him many other friends. It was always easy to laugh when Jake was around making jokes.

Military honors for his service from 1997 to 2005 include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (x3), Army Good Conduct Medal (x2), National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.

He married Cynthia P. Tyler on November 24, 2001 in Watertown.

Jake provided a good, comfortable life for his family as a pipe fitter for the UA Local 73, Oswego. He was a hard worker, dedicated to his family and worked long and hard hours.

Jake loved hunting and fishing, and the outdoors was as much home to him as his own four walls. He loved baking bread, especially with his new mixing machine that his mother-in-law, Helen, gave to his wife, Cindy last Christmas. Jake loved cooking meals for his family, discovering a talent for it that he didn’t know he had, and serving up mouth-watering treats like smoked brisket and crème brulee, lovingly made from scratch.

He was an amazing father, always playing with his children, reading to them, being there for them as a protector and a provider. Jake was an incredible husband, caring and attentive and loving, always putting the needs of his wife and family before his own. The last day of his life was a full and happy and loving one, spent with his family surrounding him. The world was tragically deprived of this wonderful man taken far, far too soon. Jake will be mourned and missed and loved for all of the years remaining to those who knew and remember him.

Survivors including his wife Cindy of thirteen years are their three children, Corbin (17), Trinity (9) and Liam (6). Jacob, all at home; his parents, his parents David and Linda Roe, New Liberty, Iowa, an older brother, Jason Roe, IA ; a younger sister Heather Roe, ID ; his father and mother-in-law, Walter “Toby” and Helen Tyler, Antwerp; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kim and J.T. Tanner, Evans Mills.

Jake was one of the finest men you would ever have the pleasure of meeting. He was friendly and outgoing and always willing to lend a helping hand, even if he had just met you.

The funeral will be 10 am at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

In lieu of flowers, Jacob would have wanted donations to be made to the Polar Plunge, in Oswego, NY, which is raising money for the Special Olympics. Jake’s youngest child has autism. He had been gearing up to take the plunge himself this year. His wife, Cindy will be taking the plunge for him in his honor instead, “Jumping for Jake”. Please learn from Jake and live your life and love your loves to the fullest every day you can. It can all change in a heartbeat. Goodbye, Jake. You are loved, forever.
