Local colleges: Gamble’s 7th goal propels SUNY Canton’s men’s lacrosse

BUFFALO — Former Carthage standout Chris Gamble scored his seventh goal of the game in sudden-victory overtime, carrying the SUNY Canton men’s lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over Medaille College on Wednesday night.

Gamble scored twice in a 28-second span with three minutes left in regulation to dig the Roos out of a 12-10 hole and force overtime. Tanner Pratt provided two goals and two assists for SUNY Canton (2-1), who had trailed 11-6 entering the fourth quarter.

Jason Thompson scored twice and Taylor Caswell assisted on two goals for the Roos.

Tim Wester led the Mavericks (0-2) with four goals.

SUNY POTSDAM 5, SUNY MORRISVILLE 3

Senior goalie Ryan Duffy made a career-high 16 saves and five Bears scored during their nonconference win over the Mustangs (4-2) in Morrisville.

Kyle Hauk won 6-of-10 faceoffs and scooped up four groundballs for the Bears (3-1).

Matt Moran, Derek Frost, Ryan McConnell, Rob Kunz and Matt Kennedy provided the goals for the Bears.

CLARKSON 12, WESLEYAN 9

The Golden Knights scored nine goals in the second half to rally for a nonconference win over the Cardinals (4-2) in Tampa, Fla.

SOFTBALL

CLARKSON DROPS A PAIR

Jamie Bridge tallied eight strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in a total of 10 innings, but the Golden Knights dropped to 0-8 to start their first season with a pair of losses in Fort Myers, Fla.

Clarkson lost to UMass-Dartmouth, 7-2, then suffered a 4-0 loss to Wooster College.

The Golden Knights have doubleheaders scheduled for today and Friday to close our their early-season Florida trip.
