POTSDAM - Two new shows will be aired on North Country Matters, the local video public affairs magazine produced at WCKN, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday following Peak Moment. Clarkson student Jenna Boss, Class of ’15, sat down with AAUW-St. Lawrence County member Donna Seymour to discuss her video that examines body image and the how media and advertising sends false signal to girls and women about beauty.

Produced for a class last fall on Social Documentation, Ms. Boss interviewed 4th graders and her college teammates (she is a member of the NCAA National Championship winning Clarkson Lady Knights) for her documentary. The direct YouTube link for the interview is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFEk-9h9dtU.

Ms. Boss is happy to share her documentary with anyone looking to explore the topic of body image and her Pursuit of You Campaign to address false media images. The video link is: http://youtu.be/c1TK8gmP6uE. It provides a good introduction to the topic and would serve as a great focal point for a discussion.

The second show airing at 8 p.m. both nights is a conversation with Town of Potsdam Marie Regan who discusses the April 10th Town of Potsdam special referendum to create a Recreation District in the town with Mrs. Seymour. That YouTube link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqKW56jwXY4.

They discuss the background of changes to the recreation program, the details of the vote and who is eligible, what a yes vote will mean, and what might happen in the event of a no vote. Additionally, they take a look at other current town issues.

The NCM civic partners working to educate North Country residents about critical public policy issues facing our region include AAUW-St. Lawrence County, the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County, and Clarkson Media and Mass Communication students, who provide the technical expertise for the productions. The shows are filmed at the WCKN studio on the Clarkson campus.

The final new North Country Matters program this spring will feature Renewal House staff Caitlin Hill and Valerie Dana talking about Sexual Assault Awareness Month and activities that takes place during April.

In addition to local broadcasts, the shows are also available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/danieledullea. Check the websites for AAUW-St. Lawrence County (http://www.northnet.org/stlawrenceaauw/index.html) and the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County (http://slc-leaguewv.org/) for specific program links as they become available.
