POTSDAM - A second-half surge carried the Massena Central varsity boys lacrosse team to a 13-5 NAC win over St. Lawrence Central at the Potsdam Central turf field Thursday night.
Sako Rourke anchored a balanced attack with three goals as the Raiders (2-1) worked their way to a 4-2 halftime lead before outscoring the Larries 4-2 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the fourth to seal the win. Ross Driscoll tallied two goals and an assist. Andrew Bender and Kendrick Angus also netted two goals each while Rhoades Tarbell (1 assist), Hunter Pyke, Cole Allen and Patrick LaGrow all struck for singletons while Jordan Robert, Brendan Broderick, Jeff Bain and Nick Henrie each drew solo assists.
I thought we were solid defensively from our goaltending out right from the start, said Raider coach Kris Covell. We held their two top scorers to just one assist each which says a lot.
We dont have another game until after spring break. This is a nice win but well be ready to get back to work for the rest of the season when we get back, he added.
Isaiah Ryan paced the Larries (2-1) with a pair of goals. Nick Randall, Jake Sutton and Brody Simonds struck for the other SLC goals while Luke Collins, Lukas Arquiett and Marshall Burninghausen each finished with solo helpers.
Except for face-offs, Massena beat us in every aspect of the game in the second half, noted Larries coach Chris Rose.
Tyler Armstrong turned aside 14 shots working the Massena crease, giving way to Troi Benedict who posted one save over the last five minutes or regulation. Kody Kocsis had 13 stops in the losing cause.
Both teams return to action the week of April 20.
