Theresa man charged with using friend’s debit card, driver’s license

THERESA—Clifford A. LaRose, 22, of 28830 Silver St., was arrested twice Thursday on multiple charges after he used a friend’s debit card to pay a bill to tow the friend’s vehicle, which he was driving with his friend’s license, police said.

State police responded to a disabled vehicle complaint on Route 37 in the town of Theresa shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday. At the scene, police discovered Mr. LaRose was using the vehicle of Joshua T. Slate, same address. Police said Mr. Slate’s sister is Mr. LaRose’s girlfriend.

When Mr. LaRose was cited with unsafe lane change, he used Mr. Slate’s license. He subsequently was charged with false personation, a misdemeanor, driving without a license and use of license of another person. For having the license, he was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

He was arrested at the state police barracks in Pamelia at 11:20 a.m.

After the initial incident, Mr. LaRose used Mr. Slate’s debit card to pay a towing bill for the vehicle valued at $188.56, police said.

On that charge, a class D felony, he was arrested at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, at 3 p.m. Thursday. He was arraigned on all the charges in Town Court and sent back to the jail on $500 cash bail.
