Municipal water coming to unserved portions of the Whalen and Patterson roads in Louisville

LOUISVILLE - When the bids for the town’s water district three project came in less than expected, the hope was to add the Whalen Road and Patterson Road to the town’s system.

The Louisville Town Board officially approved that move at this week’s town board meeting. Engineer Timothy J. Burley, of C2AE, Canton, said the additional work will cost $300,000 and come from the roughly $900,000 the town had remaining in the $7,351,000 project’s contingency fund.

Mr. Burley said the addition to these two roads adds 23 parcels and “10 or 11” homes to the project.

“It really is a small addition to the project,” Mr. Burley said, adding the extra work will have no impact on the rates paid by district residents.

Town Supervisor Larry Legault said following the completion of the projectnearly 90 percent of the town will have municipal water service.

“We had contingency money left over with the hopes of being able to add these two roads,” he said.

Since the project was paid for using grant funds from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, Mr. Legault said the town had to first receive permission from them before adding to the project’s boundaries.

The project’s original boundaries encompassed uncovered portions of the Willard Road, with service also beginning at the town’s office complex and continuing along state Route 37 to Steve’s Gas before turning down County Route 39 into the hamlet of Louisville, and expanding onto the Thompson Ridge Road to state Route 56, ending at the Norfolk town line.

The district will also extend onto West Hatfield Street, wrapping around state Route 37 and back to state Route 56, where it will also include several Norfolk residents.
