Local colleges: Mattingly, Miller pitch Clarkson baseball to sweep

FISHKILL — Jarrod Mattingly pitched a five-hit, complete-game shutout in game one as the Clarkson University baseball team swept Bard College, 1-0 and 3-2, in a Liberty League doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Mattingly struck out seven and Matt Jenack scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning for the Golden Knights (12-10, 8-6). Eddie Miller had his own complete game five-hitter for Clarkson in game two. Dom Pirro slapped a two-run single, and David Wixted’s sacrifice fly helped the Golden Knights win the nightcap.

Zach Ward belted an RBI double in the second game for the Raptors (3-18-1, 0-12-1).

n Ashley Lyman socked a three-run home run and drove in six runs in game one as the SUNY Oswego softball team swept SUNY Potsdam, 14-0 and 8-1, in a SUNYAC conference doubleheader at Oswego.

Alexandra McKay clubbed a pair of two-run homers in game two for the Lakers (8-15, 5-11). Katie Marsman drove in a run for the Bears (4-18, 3-7).

n St. Lawrence University sophomore Claire O’Neil shot rounds of 83 and 82 for a two-day total of 165 and finished 21st in the Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst (Mass.) College.

The Saints finished ninth overall in the 15-team field. Ithaca and Williams shared the team title with 644 strokes, while the Saints had a 702 total. Williams’ Georgiana Salant won the individual title.
