Former Potsdam court clerk to be indicted by grand jury

PIERREPONT — Accusations that a former Potsdam Town Court clerk embezzled more than $100,000 will be brought before a St. Lawrence County grand jury.

Mary Jo Guyette, 43, of 1221 County Route 35, Canton, was charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records after an investigation by state police and the state comptroller’s office allegedly revealed that since June 2009 she had been altering court financial documents to hide the thefts of $117,120. She was initially suspended with pay when the discrepancies were found, but was fired from her position in September.

Ms. Guyette pleaded not guilty to the charges in Pierrepont Town Court on Feb. 13 and was scheduled to reappear in that court Monday.

Pierrepont Town Judge Robert G. Camp said he ordered the case up to County Court Monday afternoon and Ms. Guyette will have to be arraigned before St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards following a grand jury indictment.
