Today’s Hair and Spa earns Potsdam Chamber’s Business of Year Award

POTSDAM - The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce has announced Today’s Hair & Day Spa has been selected as its 2014 Business of the Year.

The award will be presented to owner Shelly Murray at the chamber’s Spring Luncheon on May 14, noon, at the Potsdam Town & Country Club.

Today’s Hair & Day Spa is a full service salon and has been serving Potsdam for 17 years. The business moved to 36 Market St., a convenient location with high visibility, in 2010. The business doubled its employees and added more services. The Spa space was opened in 2011, which allowed the business to offer spa packages for bridal parties, birthday parties and other special groups.

They offer haircuts, hair color, manicure/pedicure, facial, ear piercing, massage and more. Today’s Hair has a team of stylists and cosmetologists with a passion for their work.

Murray has over 27 years of cosmetology experience. She is a graduate of SMT School of Cosmetology and is licensed in cosmetology, Keratin Complex, Smoothing Therapy, and many more beauty services.

According to the business website, Murray said, “I have a great passion for this industry and have been blessed with loving to come to work every day. I have continued to be inspired by this industry, which therefore inspires me to want to grow and learn even more.”

As one nomination observed, “Her customer service is exceptional…Shelly and her staff go above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate her customers’ needs.”

“As far as community enhancement, I can think of no one else who has offered more without an expectation of public recognition.”

Today’s Hair has hosted many open houses and fundraising activities. For several years, they have offered Cuts for a Cause, which donates all profits to worthy causes, such as Joanne’s Gift of Love, the local humane society and Hospice.

The “Go Pink” Breast Cancer campaign, held over a month, raised $3,500 for the Canton Potsdam Hospital Cancer Navigation program. Dozens of local fundraisers and jamborees have benefited from Shelly’s generosity. She has also participated in chamber sponsored events such as Fright Night, Summer Festival and the Holiday Window Display Contest.

A final observation by a nominee was, “We should be proud to call them one of our own.”

Reservations for the luncheon can be made by contacting the Potsdam Chamber at 274-9000 or Cost of lunch is $20 and seating is limited.
