Potsdam girls stay unbeaten in lacrosse


POTSDAM - The Northern Athletic Conference Girls Lacrosse showdown between unbeaten Potsdam and Massena came down to a fast start and a closeout second half.

And the Stoners (7-0, 6-0 NAC) closed out a 5-2 halftime lead with a 6-4 advantage in the second half for a 11-6 win against the Raiders (2-2, 2-1).

Netti Rishe’ scored six goals for Potsdam while Hannah Drechsel finished with three goals. Kali Grant and Kelly Loran each scored once.

Courtney Manley tallied three goals for Massena. Shannon Tacy, Devin Kelly, and Alanna Pyke all scored once.

Alexa Peterson stopped four shots for Potsdam. Felicity Love handled five shots for Massena.

In other Saturday action, Indian River topped host Heuvelton 11-9.

Indian River 11, Heuvelton 9: Brynne LaFave’s three goals and two assists helped the Warriors hold the Bulldogs for a nonleague win. Sarah Mattingly chipped in with three goals and Rachel Monica made 13 saves for Indian River (2-4).

Jackie Sovie supplied three goals and two assists leading Heuvelton (2-5). Olivia St. Pierre and Kylie Piercey each added two goals while Maddie St. Pierre and Alex Steele each connected for a goal. Heather Thompson collected nine saves in goal.
