POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central varsity baseball team built an early lead and senior Will Coleman helped make it hold up for the win as the Sandstoners gained a rain-swept 4-1 NAC Central Division win at home over Franklin Academy on Tuesday.

The Sandstoners, who made the most of their three hits, pushed across two runs in their first at-bat and carried a 3-1 lead into the fifth before Trevor Keleher sealed the win with a solo homerun over the leftfield fence.

Coleman limited the Huskies to five hits and posted 17 strikeouts while walking none in tossing the complete-game victory despite steadily worsening playing conditions.

“Will pitched well despite the weather out there,” noted coach Chris Donah after his squad improved to 4-0. “We didn’t have a lot of hits today but we came up with ways to score runs.”

Coleman had a double in the winning effort while Nathan Gingrich singled to account for the other hit.

Jacob Moody fanned seven, allowed four walks, three hits and no-earned runs in the setback. Jordan Yando connected for a double and a single while Blayke Lewis doubled and Jake Perry and Moody each singled.

The Sandstoners are slated to travel to Massena on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup against the Raiders.
