MADRID - Three games into the NAC East Division Baseball season, Madrid-Waddington Coach Justin Richards believes the race is going to be very competitive.

A race where the Jackets hold the lead at 3-0 after handing St. Lawrence Central its first loss in a precise 3-0 pitching duel between Zach Brock and M-W’s Josh Taber. Brock fanned seven in a two-hitter and Taber struck out 13 and walked two in a seven-hitter.

“It’s going to come down to the team that throws strikes and doesn’t allow alot of free passes,” said Coach Richards. “We haven’t produced alot of hits but we’ve been getting solid pitching and not making the big mistake defensively. Both St. Lawrence and Brushton-Moira are good teams. Brushton-Moira issued 10 walks in that game we took advantage.”

Brock supplied a double, single and one RBI and Jacob Barney connected a triple, a double and a single and drove in a run for M-W. Jonas Pandit (RBI) and Colin Peacock also singled.

Hayden St. Hilare connected for a double and a single for the Larries (3-1).

Meanwhile, St. Lawrence Central remained unbeaten in softball play with a 13-4 win against the homestanding Jackets.
