CANTON — On Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Taylor park gazebo, North Country river artist John Miller III will demonstrate and teach miniature paddle painting in the tradition of late 19th century souvenir paddle makers of the Thousand Islands region.

The workshop will take place in the middle of the canoe weekend action on Miner Street Road. (In case of rain, the workshop may move to the Traditional Arts in Upstate New York Center, you can go to www.TAUNY.org for updates.) Working from observations of canoe weekend festivities, participants will design scenes and paint paddles to create souvenirs of the day. Participants will work with acrylics, painting on 20 inch ash paddles. All materials will be provided, and participants will be able to take home the souvenir paddles they have made. The cost for the workshop, which is open to all ages 10 and up, is $25 per person ($20 for TAUNY Friends). Pre-registration is required by contacting TAUNY at 386-4289 or programs@tauny.org.
