A well-written story by Daniel Flatley that appeared in the April 21 edition of the Times was picked up and reposted by one of the top news websites in the U.S.
The Huffington Post carried the story Mr. Flatley wrote that profiled 21st Congressional District Green Party candidates Matthew J. Funiciello, Glens Falls, and Donald L. Hassig, Colton.
Yesterday, the state Board of Elections booted Mr. Hassig from the ballot because his petitions were received after the federal deadline. The rules allowed petitions that were postmarked on or before April 10 only if they were received by close of business April 11. Mr. Hassigs petitions werent delivered to the office until Saturday or Monday and under the federal rules, they were not valid.
Mr. Funiciello will now appear on the November general election ballot on the Green Party line without having to face an opponent in the primary.
