Area modified softball leagues staging All-Star Weekend in Brasher Falls


BRASHER FALLS - Area modified softball leagues will look to start the 2014 season in style on Sunday as All-Star Weekend wraps up with a game at the field next to the Tri-Town Arena starting at 1 p.m.

Top players from the Town and Tavern Modified fast-pitch league for players ages 16-older and from the Northern Oldtimers Modified league for players ages 35-over will be on hand to show off their skills.

Along with fans, family and friends, officials are inviting past league all-stars, Hall of Famers and Hall of Honor selections.

“We want to recognize all of our outstanding athletes as well as those individuals who have stepped forward to play a leadership role in our leagues,” noted Bob “ Bear” Doran, who serves as head of the Awards and Recognition Committees for both leagues.

“This is our attempt to try and get this individuals into the NYSASA Hall of Fame and maybe get a shot at hosting an ASA state tournament in our area,” he added. “The All-Star Game on Sunday will be the first in our effort to expand our horizons for softball in our area.”

All-Stars from the Town and Tavern League slated to participate on Sunday include: Austin Rust, Nick Hammock, Mike Bell, Scott Gavin, Heath McLean and Rizzo from the Pit Stop Tavern in Winthrop; Pat Thompson, Joe Foster, Andy Laughlin, Tim Keleher and Mike Macaulay of the Riverview Restaurant in Brasher Falls; Jarred Shope, Kevin Kelly, Nick Belile and Dustin Currier of the Cedar View Golf Course; Jason Newcombe, Travis Cole, Tim Harmer and Bear Doran from Gandy Dancer Restaurant of Norwood; Chris McGrath, Cody Smith and Trevor Keleher of the Norwood Legion; Ian Mcquinn, Brandon Marsh and Kirk LaPage of Laughing Crow of Akwesasne; George Chapman and Brian Debiew of Mad Joe’s; Erica Brabant of Casino; Jordan Dishaw of RPM and Mike Harper of Amvets. Also slated to be on hand are playoff All-Stars Justin Dowdle and Mike Schwartsfigure of the Gandy Dancer along with Adam Stone of the Riverview Restaurant.

Slated to represent the Northern Oldtimers League are: Matt Averill, Bob Baronoski, Gary Gladding, Terry Gladding, Dave Gravlin and Brian Hatch of the Norwood Legion; Bear Doran, Carl Haggett, Joey Kovach and Rich Demo of Gandy Dancer Restaurant; Basil Cheney, Steve Pavone, Mike Mossow and Randy Martin of the Hoot Owl of Canton; Jody Foote and Jay Sharlow of SJK Canton; Bobby Toomey, Shane Derouchie, Homer Rafter and Jeff Norman of Massena Amvets; Joe Bregg, Rod Harvey and John Halverson of Norwood Good Timers; Dave Delile, Joe Foster, Gary Hollahand, Ron Quick and Jeff James of Sovie’s; Gary Gushlaw of Norfolk Oldtimers; Lynden Sutliffe, Joe Anderson, Pat Brady and Jim Monroe of Legends. Playoff All-Stars due to participate include Joe Rockhill and Kim Walker.
