WATERTOWN The P.S. from Aeropostale store at Salmon Run Mall is among 125 of the chains stores at shopping malls across the country that will close by the end of 2014, Aeropostale announced.
A manager at the Watertown store confirmed its pending closure Thursday but could not provide details. A call to the companys headquarters was not returned.
The mall-based P.S. from Aeropostale stores are closing due to changing consumer patterns, according to a company news release. The company plans to restructure its brand to focus on faster-growing sales channels, including off-mall locations.
Store employees will be cut under the plan along with about 100 corporate positions. The move comes as Aeropostales sales in fiscal year 2013 sank by 12 percent to about $2.1 billion. The company lost about $148.8 million.
Through the restructuring of our P.S. from Aeropostale brand and expansion of our expense-savings program, we will be better positioned financially and have laid the groundwork for the future, Thomas P. Johnson, CEO of Aeropostale, said in the release.
