WATERTOWN — Offering another place to rent vehicles in the city, Rent-A-Ride opened last week at 912 Arsenal St.

The business, which has locations in Fulton and Liverpool, opened a Watertown site because of demand for a rental service on Arsenal Street, owner Marc Fernandez said. The company plans to expand its parking lot behind the building this summer to provide 75 spaces for vehicles, he said. It also plans to offer rental services at Watertown International Airport off Route 12F in the town of Hounsfield.

“Within the next couple of months, we’ll expand to have 50 cars there,” Mr. Fernandez said, adding that the store later will be staffed by three to five employees.

Mr. Fernandez said he saw an opportunity to capitalize on demand for car rentals off Arsenal Street as Rent-A-Wreck, a competitor, is located off outer Washington Street.

“There’s nothing down Arsenal Street right now, so we thought the location was perfect,” he said. “We had quite a few customers in the Watertown area looking to rent cars from us, but it was too far for us to travel from Fulton.”

He added that the business takes pride in its customer service. “You don’t need a credit card to rent a car from us, and we pick up and drop off customers,” he said.

Depending on the vehicle’s size, rentals at the Watertown store range from $39.99 to $52.99 per day. Vehicle brands include Nissan, Chevrolet, Dodge, Honda and Volkswagen.
