Massena Central visited OFAs Alton W. Elliott Memorial Athletic Complex looking to sustain momentum for a showdown with Potsdam for the Northern Conference Girls Lacrosse lead on Thursday. They established their ball control immediately and cruised to a 7-0 halftime lead, an 18-3 victory and a 4-1 record.
The girls are playing well and we are pointing toward the game with Potsdam. They beat us in our first meeting but we had eight players missing, said Massena Coach Jeffrey Slack after Trysten Burns tallied four goals with one assist, Jacelyn Burns scored three goals with one assist and Shannon Casey and Courtney Manley each delivered two goals and two assists to lead a lengthy scoring parade.
It may seen odd to cite your defense after an 18-3 loss but I was very happy with the way our defense played today. And we executed some nice set plays to score our three goals but we just didnt get the ball into good offensive position enough, said OFA Lauren Morley.
Courtney Sherwin continues to be be rock back there. Intercepting passes and communicating well and Kaylee LOrange, Abby Marshall and Paige McCarney did a good job staying low and just defending well. And players likes Danille Guimond and Lexi Kennedy are coming into their own on offense.
Mackenzie Bresett set up all three goals for OFA with Sky Hoover connecting twice and Brooke Badlam netting a singleton. Rounding out the Massena scoring were: Meagan Morgan (1 goal), Devin Kelly (1 goal), Krysten Stone (2 goals), Katie MacCuaig (2 assists) and Ashlyn Olsen (2 goals).
Felicity Love handled three shots in goal for Massena while Marissa Foster stopped 13 shots facing to up to heavy Raider pressure.
