Funeral services for James X. Hough, age 66 of Ogdensburg will be held on Saturday (May 10, 2014) at 3:00pm at Notre Dame Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Notre Dame Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Hough passed away at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday (May 6, 2014).
Surviving are his wife Marsha; two sons Matthew Hough & Jeffery Hough both of Ogdensburg; a daughter Jillian Gilmour & her husband Aaron of Morristown; brother-in-laws Kevin Cole & his wife Renee of Heuvelton and Michael Cole of Ogdensburg; a sister-in-law Melanie Cobb & her husband Tom of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren Mattilynne, Riley, Seth, Ethan & Kaitlyn Hough and Bailey & Ashton Gilmour, along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother Harriett Hough along with In-laws Aylene & Kenneth Cole.
Jim was born on February 2, 1948 in Syracuse, NY the son of Harriett Hough. He received his education from St. Marys Academy, Heuvelton Central School and later Mater Dei College where he earned a degree in criminal justice.
Jim enlisted in the US Army during Vietnam from 1967 to 1970 earning a purple heart and multiple medals for his bravery during his combat mission. On August 19, 1972 he then married Marsha E. Cole at Notre Dame Church.
He began his career with Leamy Construction and later became employed at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as a therapy Aid. Later he retired as a safety officer in 2003 with 34 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of Forsyths Riffles, Fort La Presentation, NYS Bass Association and the Thousand Island Wood Turners. He enjoyed motor cycling, woodworking, gardening, fishing, working on the Fort La Presentation site, date nights with his wife, traveling and spending time with his friends and grandchildren.
Jim was a conscientious, hardworking man who was always willing to help anyone in need. He was well loved and will be missed by many.
