Edwards-Knox Central School class leaders


RUSSELL — The academic leaders for the class of 2014 at Edwards-Knox Central School are Hunter Tuttle, valedictorian, and Mackenzy Allen, salutatorian.

Mr. Tuttle, son of Tracy Tuttle, Canton, and Barton Tuttle, Russell, has an academic average of 95.36. He is a member of National Honor Society, was named to the outstanding honor roll and received excellence awards in several subjects, including the highest Regents exam scores in geometry, Earth science and chemistry.

He participated in 120 hours of community service, including tutoring fellow students, volunteering at the local fire department, food drives for the local food pantry and gardening and yard work at the local senior citizen housing complex.

Mr. Tuttle is a member of the school soccer and golf teams, served as soccer captain his senior year and received a sportsmanship award and 2nd Team All-Northern in golf. He was awarded the Section X All-Academic in soccer and golf and serves as class treasurer.

He was nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was awarded a four-year Army ROTC scholarship at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, where he will study aerospace engineering.

Miss Allen, daughter of Tina and Gina Allen, Edwards, has an academic average of 94.46. She is a member of National Honor Society and concert band and participated in New York State School Music Association level five for several years.

She earned excellence awards in several subjects and was in accelerated classes in mathematics and sciences, allowing her to take a fifth course in both subjects. She also is a member of the school swim team, where she earned a Section X All-Academic Award.

Miss Allen participated in several community service activities, including tutoring fellow students, serving meals at the local fire hall and gardening and yard work at the local senior citizen housing complex.

She is a member of the yearbook committee, where she has served in several leadership capacities, and has participated in Clarkson University’s Saturday enrichment program, Project Challenge, for two years, receiving the Clarkson University Achievement Award.

Miss Allen has been accepted at Clarkson University, Potsdam, Rochester Institute of Technology and SUNY Plattsburgh, but has not decided where she will attend.
