Norwood woman jailed after allegedly stealing pills from drug store

POTSDAM — A Norwood woman was jailed late Friday following a drug sting that allegedly caught her stealing prescription drugs from the Kinney Drugs in Potsdam where she worked.

St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force members charged Danielle M. Pelkey, 35, with a felony count of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary E. Rain said the arrest follows an investigation involving task force members and Kinney Drugs internal security in Pelkey’s alleged theft of 500 hydrocodone pills.

During a midnight arraignment in Potsdam Village Court, Chief Assistant District Attorney David Haggard requested that Pelkey be sent to St. Lawrence CountyCorrectional Facility due to the severity of the crime, Ms. Rain said.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a street dealer or working professional dealing drugs, this office will prosecute you equally,” Ms. Rain said. “The volume of drugs alleged to have been taken by Ms. Pelkey implicates this is not for personal use but for sales.”

Potsdam Acting Village Justice Margaret I. Garner sent Pelkey to the county jail, without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 16.
