CANTON — St. Lawrence County has scheduled a public hearing for 7:30 p.m. today in Room 225 of the Planning Office in the County Courthouse on changes to Agricultural District 2 as recommended by the county Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board.

Seven property owners requested adding eight parcels to Ag District 2 that total 470.8 acres in the towns of Brasher, Canton, Hopkinton, Lisbon, Madrid and Parishville. A request also was received to remove 114.5 acres from the district in Hopkinton so it could be combined with an adjacent parcel that is not in the district.

The boundary between the county’s two ag districts will be redrawn, affecting land in the towns of Oswegatchie and Russell. Both ag districts provide the same protections and benefits for farm operations.

Mapping errors to ag district lands in Potsdam would be corrected with the consent of affected property owners.

Changes made will not alter the taxes or the zoning designation of the affected parcels.

For more information, contact Matilda Larson in the Planning Office at 379-2292 or mlarson@stlawco.org.
