Heuvelton downs OFA Girls

Gaining momentum for the Section 10 Tournament was order of the day for Heuvelton and OFA on a rainy Friday in the Blue Devils’ Senior Game at the Alton W. Elliott Athletic Complex.

OFA (4-8 NAC) hosted Salmon River in the first round of the Class C sectionals on Monday at 7;30 p.m. while Heuvelton (7-5) hosted Saranac Lake.

The Lady Bulldogs set the tone from the start and opened an 8-3 halftime margin and a 13-5 lead before the Devils scored the last three goals of the game.

“It was all about focus. We just lost our focus at times and lost our man defensively and they capitalized. They have some very good finishers,” said OFA Lauren Morley who honored seven seniors before the game in Brooke Badlam, Mackenzie Bresett, Anna Couperus, Carly Garrison, Janelle LaRue, Paige McCarney and Hunter Shaver.

“Against Saranac Lake yesterday (Thursday) we struggled in the first half and then scored 10 goals in the second half. We have to stay focused for the whole game.”

The Bulldogs’ offense featured a trio of three goals scorers in Corine Sherwood, Olivia St. Pierre (2 assists) and Jackie Sovie (1 assists). Maddie St. Pierre and Kyle Piercey each tallied two goals to back Heather Thompson’s three saves in goal.

“It looks like we will get the third seed in Class C with Massena as the only Class B team,” said Heuvelton Coach Becky Kelley.

“And Class C should be pretty wide open, I feel good going in about our chances.”

Sky Hoover delivered three goals and two assists for OFA with Mackenzie Bresett netting two goals with one assist, Danielle Guimond contributing one goal and two assists, Carly Garrison passing out two assists and Hunter Shaver and Kelsi Donaldson each posting a single goal.

Heuvelton seniors playing their last regular season game were: Renee Breault, Jackie Sovie, Maddie St. Pierre and Ashlyn Foster.

OFA 14 - Saranac Lake 7: On Thursday night Sky Hoover scored five goals, Mackenzie Bresett tallied four goals with one assist and Taylor Smith passed four assists in the victory over Saranac Lake.

Hunter Shaver scored twice, Lexi Kennedy netted one goal with an assist, Anna Couperus scored once and Brooke Badlam passed out one assist to the support of Marissa Foster who made five saves in goal.
